Wasootch Ridge II
  • Location: Kananaskis Country (Highway 40)
  • Activity: Scrambling
  • Height: 2,311 m (7,582 ft)
  • Elevation Gain: 1,180 m (3,872 ft)
  • Distance: 14.1 km / Round Trip (8.8 mi)
  • Avg Steepness: 9.5°
  • Estimated Time: 6-9 hrs
  • Technicality: Intermediate
  • Fitness Level: Hard

This was my second attempt of Wasootch Ridge. I tried pretty much the same time around in 2011. However if you remember we had twice as much snow in 2011. While it was still winter ascent in 2011, it was pretty much dry in 2013.

To the Ridge:
Well just follow the trail from the parking lot.

Off the Ridge:
Where to get down from the ridge wasn't very clear. At GR368444 (waypoint "Wind Block", page 9) the trail went farther, so I did too but it disappeared. From what I can say is that you can go 1 more hump after the wind block then you have to get off the ridge on climber's right. You can also get off the ridge at the wind block if that's easier.

To the Summit:
I traverse below the slab walls for a while eventually it opened up and it was just matter of going up rubble slope to the summit (page 7).

Wasootch Peak and Kananaskis Peak. The big knob is Wasootch Tower.

I see all the way to the summit of Wasootch Ridge.

The last scree slope to the summit was really the only scrambling part.

A sudden big bang sound. That's a lot of future spring water I can sell for $1 per bottle.

No difficulty. Just a little steep rubble slope to deal with.
