Little Lougheed was little too short and the weather was too nice to go back to Calgary so early, we decided to do a short hike at Grassi Lakes.
We saw ice climbers at the frozen waterfall.
This is close to where I almost died. I survived by a pure luck. The trail was ice covered, but Andrea took a chance and walked on ice, so I followed. One step, two steps then I lost control and I start sliding toward Andrea. I bumped her and used her as a pivot point to go around her, then I saw a cliff only 2 m away from me and I still had no control over where I was going. Only thing I knew was I was going towards the cliff. I honestly thought, the day have come and it was my time to die. Let's face it, every time I go out mountains, I don't expect to come home alive. But there IT was. A tiny skinny young tree growing from face of the cliff. I kicked it to stop myself falling right at the cliff. It would have been funny if I really died because after all the far more dangerous scrambles I have done in summer, all I got was scratches, but here I was at Grassi Lakes which is less than a hike and more like sightseeing. I almost died.
Feels like winter already.
After a long long long long long hike at Grassi Lakes, we were too tired to move on.
A big fall which wasn't frozen still.
After a short and easy hike, there was a beautiful Lower Grassi Lakes. The color is quite amazing.
This place is also famous for rock painting. We took some time to found it. Here it is… Ok it's just chalk from rock climbers.
Here is the real thing. According to "Popular Day Hikes 1 Kananaskis Country" by Gillean Daffern, this is painted by ancestors of the Kootenai over 1000 years ago. Well that's what white people say. The true story is, it is painted by my grandfather. He was caught and deported back to Japan for graffiti on a rock.
This is the site.
That's right, the site of a crime scene. WIL can I have your camera?
This is Upper Grassi Lake. Look identical to lower lake.
